Olhar da FlorestaHorto Waterfall Circuit
Eight kilometres of forest with several waterfalls and Vista Chinesa along the way.
Half a day in Rio's urban rainforest, with a nature guide and a waterfall swim.
In the 19th century the Tijuca slopes were covered in coffee plantations and the city began to run out of water. In 1861, Major Archer and six enslaved workers started replanting the forest, seedling by seedling. Your guide tells that story as we visit Cascatinha Taunay, the Mayrink Chapel, the Solidão reservoir and walk an easy trail to a waterfall where you can swim.
On the way back we stop at Vista Chinesa, a pagoda-shaped lookout with the Lagoon, Ipanema and Sugarloaf below. Capuchin monkeys, coatis and toucans are common sightings.
